The sector was founded in 2004 with the aim of preserving the local heritage of artisan career in the city through training women heads of households, youth who drop out of school and those with special needs by empowering them and providing them with employment opportunities.

Goals :

El-Azm School for Arts & Crafts

It is a vocational-technical school with free tuition licensed by the Ministry of Education and the Directorate General of Technical and Vocational Education designed to bring vocational and technical courses to its students which offer an opportunity to pursue a career in the skilled trades through:

– Empowering targeted groups by developing their skills and their productive capacities
– Contributing to alleviating the problem of unemployment by empowering women and youth
and training them in traditional occupations that help them reach self-sufficiency
– Preserving the national crafts product
– Contributing to the Lebanese economic, cultural and tourism development cycle

Traditional Handicrafts Project (straw stitch & knitting)

The aim of this project is to develop the skills of women heads of household in the field of sewing and straw stitch trade to those with special needs, and provide a livelihood for them and empower them economically through the management and distribution of their products that are also displayed at the seasonal social activities of AWS:
– Donations given to students in public schools (sportswear, sweaters, winter coats, etc.)
– Donations given to orphanages and elderly (bed linen, nightgowns, towels, etc.)
-Eid clothing campaign were launched in 2015 where more than 7,000 outfit for kids between the ages of 4-14 years old were designed and manufactured.
– On the occasion of the AWS 30th anniversary 1762 coats and sweaters were given for children in need.
– Donating more than 15,759 pieces of linen and cotton to charitable organizations.
